This is another project in AIL Sound Walls’ extensive portfolio of logistics center noise barrier walls, this time for the FedEx Ground Distribution Center in New Brighton, a suburb of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The project consisted of two separate Tuf-Barrier (Reflective) noise barrier walls navigating through tight layouts and a few obstructions to connect to different sides of the building. The walls totaled 905′ in length and were 17-19′ in height. We were able to add value in this project by using our new longer XL Series Panels on much of this project.
We initially worked with FedEx’s General Contractor, TMG Construction, to design the sound barrier walls and then partnered with the installation sub-contractor, Midwest Fence, for the install.
Some challenges were encountered with this noise barrier walls installation
Commercial installation projects can bring challenges and this project presented a few, namely:
- Working in Minnesota winter conditions
- Unexpected underground utilities in the run
- Limited workspace with active vehicle lots on both sides
We couldn’t do much about the weather, but thankfully our lightweight PVC systems are very weather-resilient. When we encountered the underground utilities, we were able to alter our layout and footing placements and expedite some additional material that was required. Site access was difficult with active vehicle lots on both sides for half of the layout but we worked with FedEx to develop a phased installation plan to accommodate this.
We enjoyed collaborating with our project partners on this installation. Positive feedback was received from all stakeholders.
