Traffic noise from a newly constructed parking structure was affecting residential neighbors next to the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo, California. The existing 3′ concrete perimeter wall was an effective traffic barrier but it did not offer much in the way of noise mitigation. Extending the concrete wall would have been too costly, so it was decided to structure-mount a lightweight Tuf-Barrier solution from AIL Sound Walls.
Lightweight system mounts with little disruption to neighbors
Choosing a structure-mounted AIL Sound Walls system meant that almost all of the work could be done with very little disruption to the neighbors and their yards, especially on the back side of the structure that abutted very closely against their properties.
No heavy equipment needed
No heavy equipment was needed and mounting directly on the building wall only required minimal drilling and anchoring. The project started on time and was completed in approximately six weeks.
The noise level has been dramatically reduced and the new sound wall’s gray and white panels aesthetically complement the overall look of the structure. The AIL Sound Walls team is always ready to dress-up or dress-down our aesthetics to achieve the desired results. In this case, the architect specified custom tube steel posts instead of using our typical wide-flanged I-beams. The posts were also powder coated gray to match the panels.
