AIL Sound Walls PVC panels are looking “just peachy” in their dual role as both an architectural screen and a sound barrier atop Peachtree Center Station in downtown Atlanta, GA. They’re part of an effort by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to improve the aesthetics of the low-rise station in conjunction with the opening of a new Atlanta Street Car stop at the site.
Noise barrier panels needed to work with existing posts
The existing screen was made of steel posts with plywood panels. To complement the new Street Car stop, MARTA wanted an aesthetically pleasing system that could be incorporated into their existing steel posts which were in good structural condition and very costly to replace. Our lightweight, easy -to-install PVC panels in several pleasing colors were a perfect fit.
The AIL Sound Walls team worked closely with MARTA’s architectural department to select a mix of our standard color panels to achieve the patterned look they preferred.
Our Technical Sales Representatives made several site visits to confirm that our panels and post sleeve/cap system would integrate with the existing steel posts — even building sample sections to demonstrate it. We also had to incorporate a gate and specialized attachments for a few structures on the rooftop.
The system has provided an attractive screen around the station while also mitigating unwanted sound from generators and air systems for passing pedestrians. We’ve received nothing but positive feedback from MARTA to date and we’re already working with them in the design phases on a couple of other projects.
