ASTM International recently approved the “ASTM F3459-21 Standard Specification for Rigid Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Exterior Profiles Used for Sound Walls.”
This standard focuses on standardizing manufacturing requirements and design methodologies for materials used in PVC sound barrier walls. It stipulates the minimum criteria for testing of material characteristics and determining product strength and flexural capabilities. Most notably, there is a requirement for the product to meet a minimum thickness criterion and specific test methods to determine flexural capacities. The intent of the standard is to maintain product integrity as more manufacturers consider entering the market. To get a copy of the standard, please visit the ASTM website and search F3459.
