This was a very different project that our installation partner, Premier Fence, brought to us. As part of their maintenance contract with MassDOT, Premier was tasked with replacing a failing galvanized metal sound wall along I-190 at Route 12 in Worcester. Being very familiar with our system from several past projects, they recommended AIL Sound Walls.
We adapted existing posts to our sound barrier wall system, with a mix of noise control panels used
On this project, the existing steel posts and foundations were in good shape, so Premier opted to keep them and reconfigure them to accept our PVC panels. This entailed painting the posts to match our panels and installing color-matched angles to secure our panels with stainless steel hardware. The new noise barrier wall used our Tuf-Barrier (Reflective) panels on the lower 4′ and Silent Protector (Absorptive) panels on the upper 8′.
Expertise in adapting our system to existing posts or structures
The AIL Sound Walls engineering team is often rising to the challenge of adapting our lightweight and easy-to-install system to existing structures or posts — configuring all sorts of nifty attachment solutions.
- A good example of this is a project we did for the Peachtree Center Station in downtown Atlanta, where we integrated our panels and post sleeve/cap system, specialized attachments and a gate with their existing steel posts.
- Another good example is our Sequoia Hospital rooftop installation in Redwood City, where our system integrated into existing metal visual screens and parapet openings without adding substantial weight or changing the look of the building.
Flexible system, flexible partner
We feel this project is a testament to the flexibility of AIL Sound Walls — both the system itself and our collaborative approach to finding the right solutions for our project partners. We were happy to be a “panels-only” supplier for Premier Fence and offer assistance wherever we could to ensure MassDOT got the best possible solution and good value.
MassDOT representatives were happy with the finished product and the fact Premier was able to bring it in within budget by re-using the existing posts and foundations with our panels.
