As part of their I-75 Rouge River Project, aka the Detroit-Downriver Connection, The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) needed a half-mile of bridge-mounted noise barrier wall on the southbound I-75 over Goddard Road and the Sexton Kilfoil Drain in Allen Park.

MDOT chooses our lightweight system again
Already familiar with AIL Sound Walls from a successful trial project in Lansing, MDOT chose our innovative, lightweight PVC system again for this project. Our Engineering team worked with our project partners to tailor the steel post system to mount to the new bridge and meet the schedule demands and MDOT requirements.

Our structure-mounted sound barrier expertise
AIL Sound Walls are most commonly ground-mounted on concrete piers, but their light weight makes them ideal to mount to various types of structures such as concrete traffic barriers, bridge parapets and MSE walls, including our own Vist-A-Walls. Our in-house engineering expertise with multiple systems ensures project success in all types of structure-mounted noise barriers.

About the I-75 Rouge River project
The over-arching Rouge River mega project includes improving three large bridges, 13 smaller bridges and repairing the road surface along I-75. The Goddard portion of the project replaced two existing I-75 bridges with four shorter and lower bridges separated by embankments. This plan required a noise analysis, which recommended building a noise barrier along the southbound lanes. The project involved replacing approximately 750' of existing noise barrier and extending it to a total of 2,400' of new barrier.
